Extremely responsive, on the dyno it did 135 in 4th and pulled 340 but we did not want to push too hard, we need to get some miles on her.

Engine Factory - I speced out the complete engine build up, worked out a price with them, and it came out great. '93 style PS pump, '04 hydraboost and PS rack. Love the PS and PB.
Branda Cobra stuff - had the valve covers polished - great. Air cleaner sufficates the engine. Have switched to an Endlebrock foam filter for everyday driving. TKO 600 with mid-shift - now that all the little nags are worked out with the trans - good. Love the mid shift.
302 v. 351 v. stroker v. big block - 393W is a good bridge motor between the small blocks and big block motors. Potentially, the best overall. Happy with choice. Really good performance and I can still get somewhat good gas mileage - 17 best so far - low gearing doesn't help; 3 grand at 80 mph!

Hello Gents,

I'd just like to take the time to say thanks for building this great engine (302-350 H. P.) engine for my 1981 Aurora slabside 289 Cobra replica. The car is has been undergoing restoration for the last three years and it's a blast to own and drive! Here are a few PICS of the car.

Thanks again,

I purchased a 351 ford engine from The Engine Factory about 10 months ago in 2006 and it dropped in place of my Hurricane Motorsports Cobra.
Thought you might want to see the finished project.

Engine runs great.
Thanks for your help.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with the engine that I received. I also wanted to tell you how much I appreciated the fact that you went to so much trouble to get the engine done and shipped in such a short time. It runs and looks amazing and I am getting several compliments on it. I am a regular at car shows and will be highly recommending you to anyone who asks! Thanks again, and you will definitely be hearing from me in the future for any of my engine needs.

By the way the engine is running great and strong. Really sets you back. Also, I'm getting close to 15 mpg. Way better than I has expected. And I'm sure I could do better if I could keep my foot out of it. Having way too much fun.

Thanks again,

The motor performs extremely well.  QUITE A LOT FOR A LIGHT CAR!!!  :)   Very fast, sounds GREAT.  I am extremely happy with the motor and its performance.  Corvettes, Saleens, new GT500, cars with nitrous, etc. can not touch this car.

This motor is Super Strong and has Loads of Power. Factory Five had a Rally at Danville VA and I took 3rd best motor out of 100 Cars.  I want to Thank you for your Help and for a Super Product.

Ordered your 425HP 351W  in June of 2002.  Installed it in my Factory Five replica 2 months later.  Finished the build process in August and, as promised, when I turned the key, the engine roared to life and I haven't had to touch or tune it in 4,000 + miles.   I am tremendously satisfied and would recommend your firm to anyone.
At the car shows I have attended, I always get tons of compliments on the engine compartment  The engine looks fantastic and performs superbly.  8 shows and five trophies, so I guess the judges like it also.
Many thanks to your wonderful staff, as I must have called dozens of times with questions and changes, and they were always very knowledgeable and helpful.

Sincerely,

I just want to thank you again for the advice and information on selecting the engine for my Factory Five Roadster.  The engine came in right on schedule and looking great.  The installation was easy and engine has performed wonderfully.  The timing, carburetor was tuned perfectly and all I have had to do is set the idle.  I have had numerous comments on how clean the engine installation was.  I seem to be selling your engines at every show I attend.  Thanks again for the great engine!  I have attached a couple of photos of my car and engine compartment.

Attached is a pic of my 347 sroker engine which I bought from you in January '06. It's installed in my GT40 replica, as you can see quad 48IDA webers with a full crossover open exhaust system, as you can imagine It sounds fantastic.

Check out this beauty !  Our 351w / 400 HP engine in  a GT40 Replica.

The engine that is currently in my car was built by the Engine Factory. It is a 351W (405HP Cobra Special), which is now pushing between 425 and 450HP. The engine has run without a hitch from day one. Very strong through it's power band, loads of torque, and incredible throttle response. It holds 50lbs of oil pressure at idle after a good hard run, is tight, and has no leaks after a few thousand miles. I had my engine on my doorstep within 10 days of ordering.

I would buy from them again, if a new project comes along.

The guys at the Engine Factory are super. Took all my information (ok and Money) and was very eager to help me out. They have supplied many engines to the FFR folks.  The delivery was super and with no damage.
I would recommend them to anyone who is going the non donor route. I looked into the options of other crate engines and by the time you add on all the extras I would have paid the same with out the professional installation. Mine is a complete drop in and run engine with 100 amp chrome alt, MSD electronics, Edelbrock carb, intake, heads, chrome front sump oil pan, and polished alum valve covers (cobra powered by ford)..

Good overall price for something that is 500 hp and ready to drop in

I ordered my Engine Factory engine about 6 weeks ago, and it came in today. Everything exactly as agreed, with a video showing my engine running and going over all the details I'll have to take care of and watch for!
It's a 351 W - with 405HP. They found me a 69 block, so I won't have to run cats.
It'll be a week or two getting it going, but all looks fantastic so far.
What a Christmas present!

I'll call ya soon !

I started working on this project about this time last Year, so far I have completely put the car together and now have disassembled it for the paint shop. It has a 302 cid HO motor with 350 HP. It has a Mustang GT rear suspension, four -point hookup and quad shocks. 327 to 1 gears with posilock differential.  It has a 95 T-5 World class Transmission with the long pilot shaft and bellhousing, stainless steel gears.  I am building the car to just drive and not show.

The engine was finally installed in September 2002.  I ran the engine three times in the 9 months of waiting for the car.  I used a plastic bucket to provide a reservoir for the water pump and circulated the water to clean out rust deposits in the block.  I turned the engine over without plugs to circulate oil prior to starting.  The engine started right up the first time and all the other times.  The car is finally finished and we have been on the road for two weeks.  (now it has been a couple of months and about 900 miles).    I thought I would send you some pictures of the finished product.  Your engine has been perfect.  Starts easily and runs very strong.  I am very pleased with the job you did on this motor.  Not only does the car look fast, it is.  Much more engine than I am used to, but will try to get used to it.   I have tried to follow most of your directions, if not all of them.  I ran the engine without thermostat (put in a thermostat around 400 miles) as you recommended.  50° - 60° weather car will run about 140 – 160 water temp.  If I let it run at idle, temp will get to 180° (electric fan comes on), or if I run it a little hard, it will reach 180°.   I also wish to thank you for the clear directions in connecting MSD system.   There was some confusion with directions from ERA.  I need to clean up some of the wiring in the engine compartment, but will do this while waiting for my oil pan modification. Had to replace K&N air filter (4-inch high) with a very low profile filter (about 1-inch high) because the hood would not close.  I have an oil temp indicator, but no port on Canton oil pan.  Again not your problem as I should have let you know that I needed a port in the oil pan for the sender unit.  I have removed oil pan and sent back to Canton Racing for modification.

I took Cobra out for the first time today. I went down the street to a empty parking lot to just check the brakes and to make sure everything was screwed on tight. On the way back I started out slow in 1st. then hit 2nd. and nailed it.
OH MY GOD!!! I'll never do that again. I came home and changed my shorts!! 400+ HP is way too much for a 2300
lb. car. She handles like she's on rails and when I get into 5th gear she quiets down and just burbles along real nice.
Exhaust is extremely loud but engine sounds nasty ---yeah!! Thanks for your help I'll get down there this summer to show you the finished product.  Please Read his poem

Somehow it just did not seem like we were building a car, until the Engine Factory sent this little number to our house, complete from air cleaner wingnut to oil drain plug. They built it just as I asked, then ran it up on a bench to check it out and tune her up. Even included a video of the engine running with a narration from the builder, good stuff.

Finally got around to taking pictures of my car.  Sorry it took so long.
Just a reminder as to who I am.  The engine (351w) for the car was purchased from The Engine Factory in June/July of 2004.  About two months ago you sent a replacement alternator as the one that came with the engine was faulty.  However, all is in working order now except for a few small bugs (gauges).  The engine runs strong and is a real "hoot" to drive.  It took until about a month ago to finish the car as the build was held up several times by circumstances.
Best regards,

Engine test conducted on Friday. If any of you saw the movie "Christmas Vacation" with Chevy Chase, do you recall how excited he was when he finally got his 25,000 outdoor Christmas lights lit? Same feeling here. These guys helped me get her ready for test. Fired up on second crank.

I just got back from a visit to Shell Valley. We went to look at our Cobra and see how it was progressing. The people at Shell Valley were totally crazy about the engine you built for us! They spoke about that more than anything else. They complimented it from the way it was shipped to the way it fired right up on the first key turn when it was dropped in the car. They said the quality control was the best that they had seen, bar none. Some experiences they have had with other engine builders were described to me and it sounded scary. The engine was started for me and it sounded really sweet. I looked the engine over and all of the stickers pointing things out were great. Roberts' signature and date on the block was perfect. The video was awesome! I am really impressed with your complete service. Everything has gone so smooth. My wife went nuts over the engine as well. The car is hers and she thought the attention to detail was amazing. Thank you for that because she is the biggest critic. I never would have heard the end of it otherwise. Please thank every one that worked on the engine for me!

I guarantee I'll be buying the motor for my coupe from you!

Thanks again!!!

The dream of owning a 65 Roadster is not exclusive to those stateside.  After all, dominated tracks all over the world in the 60’s, so its influence was felt in many corners of the world.

Excerpted from Stephan’s emails:

In 1996, I restored my first European BRM-Cobra 427, which I bought in England.  After I married my wife Silke and my daughter Emelie was born, in August 2002 I sold the car to spend more time with my family.

Only 3 years later, however, I couldn’t resist the urge to own a new cobra.  So I asked my family, and they gave me the green light.

Stephan enjoys the super-speedways of the German highway system as much as he likes pushing the car to it’s limits on Germany’s famed Nurburgring or one of Formula 1’s favorite Hockenheimring.  He regularly shares stories of racing and other adventures in his German Factory Five.

FFR posted a small portion of the images he has sent us over the last few years.

Hi Guys, the engine arrived a few days ago. I have to tell you that I am so happy with the job that you  did. I had certain expectations about how the engine would look but after seeing what you supplied, you went beyond what I expected to see. It was a really nice touch seeing the video of the engine which Tim built. The empty boxes inside the crate was good for packaging and I quite liked seeing what exactly went into the build. You have always provided great communication and worked with me due to the delay in the build start after I took ill. All this has made me feel like I made the right decision to go with you with this project. I will send a video of the Cobra when it is finished. Thanks again it has been a pleasure doing business with you.

I thought you might be interested in a couple of pics of my car showing the engine and radiator – a nice new ally job which, following his advice on video, The bundle of snakes exhaust system is ceramic coated and will hopefully take a lot of the heat out of the back. The engine fired up straight away as promised and sounds great. The only change I’m making is replacing the mechanical fuel pump with twin electric ones. The engine is mated to a 5 speed Renault transaxle unit with limited slip diff.

The build is about 2/3 complete now.

I bought my motor last February 2007, it arrived ahead of schedule and due to life getting in the way the motor sat for almost a year. I was very nervous that it would have problems for sitting that long, especially during a Utah winter. It fired right up also. Mine purrrrrrs as well. I'm at 5,000 ft so I did change the metering rods and this is the nicest motor I've ever played with.

Factory Five MKIII

Dear Engine Factory

Want to personally thank you again . . . and again, and again,  for the excellent engine build you sent to us ( so many months ago.)
It fired on the third turn and sounds just fantastic. Oil PSI is 55+, holds good temperature, making 14V's . . . starts easily,  no leaks. Just a fantastic and beautiful job. Thank you for all your talent and time.

As you can see it really made the entire project a "turn-key" operation. . .
You  gave this Cobra project the power plant it needed to be the best one on the block. . .

I will recommend your services to anybody I speak with who is doing this type of kit project.
Thank-you again.
